For the last 12 months or so, I have been working with staff at AICC (www.aiccbox.org) on their first podcast. The idea was spawned a few years ago at an AICC Winter Board Meeting when Gene Marino from Akers Packaging and I were just brainstorming about new and innovative ideas within the industry. The two of us had the idea, but neither had the experience or the knowledge of how to host or produce a show.
Over the next few years we continued to discuss the idea and eventually came up with a general theme we would work off of, all based within the industry we knew best- Corrugated. The two of us have been fortunate to get to know so many of the industries giants over the years, their stories of success and failure, their leadership styles and even some of their biggest regrets. The goal became obvious as we spoke more and more. To bring these stories to everyone in the industry.
Once we narrowed down our focus, we dug in with AICC to determine what the best path forward was. Virginia Humphrey at AICC took the project on and immediately began dialing up the ins and outs of a podcast. The timing worked perfect, as Gene kicked off his chairmanship with AICC we subsequently began recruiting guests and eventually started recording the first episodes. I think the two of us were tentative and assumed we would have two listeners- his wife and mine. Instead, the reaction has been incredible. Getting on camera and in front of a microphone was remarkably easy to do and the guests have been incredibly open to share their stories.
Breaking Down Boxes is the name we came up with. Episode 1 is with one of the greatest characters in the independent packaging space. Hear what Greg Tucker of Bay Cities shares about his journey, leadership style, and why he thinks a great leader is the blocker of a football team. It is a great way for us to kickoff the podcast.
